- In 1831- The Liberator, Abolitionist newspaper first published in Boston, MA
- In 1996- Police Officer Lauretha Vaird was shot and killed while responding to a bank robbery in the 4700 block of Rising Sun Avenue. The street has now been renamed in her honor
- In 2022- Hamtramck, Michigan becomes the first known city in the United States with a government made up entirely of Muslims
